Rosie Schlussel and Rissa
Winkelman have been named
chairmen for th first donor to be
sponsored by the American
Women for Bar-Ilan University,
Detroit Chapter. The event will
take place on June 4 at 11:30 a.m.
in the home of Barbara Stollman,
announced Frieda Stollman, the
chapter's honorary president.
Shaul Ben-Meir, Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra flutist, will be
guest artist. Shirley Loewenthal,
a longtime member of the group,
will be the speaker.
Funds raised through the
donor, and through the chapter'S
additional activities, go to sup-
port Bar-Ilan University's exten-
sive library system.
Both Mrs. Schlussel and Mrs.
Winkleman have been active in
various aspects of Jewish Com-
munal life over and above their
work for Bar-Ilan, principally
with the National Council of
Jewish Women and with the
Women's Division of the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
Assisting them will be the fol-
lowing committee members: Ann

Chessler, Shelly Cooper, Hilda
Erman, Hortense Falk, Nancy

NCJW Sponsors
`Barak' Seminar'

The Greater Detroit Section,
National Council of Jewish
Women, will host its second Billie
Barak Leadership Seminar
Tuesday and Wednesday at the

Butzel Conference Center at
Camp Maas.
About 50 members of the Sec-
tion's board of directors and
chairmen are expected to partici-
pate in the two-day workshop.
Guest speakers include Elinor
Waters, director of the Con-
tinuum Center at Oakland Uni-
versity; Maxine Berman, Michi-
gan State legislator from the
64th District; and Suzanne
Franklin, director of foster care
and adoption, Orchards Chil-
dren's Services.
The seminar is designed to de-
velop and enhance leadership
ability and is made possible by
the Billie Barak Memorial Fund,
established by her husband, M.
Morton Barak; daughter, Sandra
Barak; and brother, A. Robert
Zeff.
Mrs. Barak served as Section
president from 1965 to 1967, was
active in both the central district
and national levels of NCJW, and
held leadership positions in a
wide range of community organ-
izations. She was also responsible
for many Detroit civic and cul-
tural events.
Chairmen of the seminar are
Susan Alterman, Joy Nachman
and Ann Zousmer.

Sandberg Wins
Medical Award

Dr. Hershel Sandberg, class of
1953, has been chosen by his fel-
low alumni of the Wayne State
University School of Medicine to
receive the Distinguished
Alumni Service Award "in
acknowledgment of his dedica-
tion as a physician and commu-
nity leader."
After earning his bachelor of
science degree from Wayne State
University and his medical de-
gree from Wayne State Univer-
sity School of Medicine, Dr.
Sandberg completed. an intern-
ship and residency at Detroit Re-
ceiving Hospital.
Currently, he is chief of
endocrinology at Sinai Hospital
and is affiliated with Mt. Carmel
Hospital and Detroit Receiving
Hospital. He is a clinical associ-
ate professor in the Department
of Medicine, Wayne State Uni-
versity School of Medicine and
clinical associate professor at
Mercy College.

Women Sponsor
Breakfast Event

Young Israel Sisterhood will
sponsor a cultural breakfast at
Young Israel of Oak-Woods on
Sunday. Breakfast will be served
at 10 a.m. and the lecture will
commence at 10:30 a.m.
Dr. Sheila Lampert, psychol-
ogist, lecturer, author and past
president of the Detroit Zionist
Federation, will speak on "Mis-
sing Pieces to the Middle East
Puzzle." The cost of this lecture
includes breakfast. Guests, both
men and women, are invited. Call
