Akiva Student Wins Merit Award Deborah Traurig, a senior at Akiva Hebrew Day School, has been selected to receive a Regents-Alumni Scholar Merit Award from the University of Michigan. Deborah, who is studying in Jerusalem as part of Akiva's senior-year-in-Israel program, is one of only 440 Michigan high school students to receive the scholarship. A record 1;468 stu- dents were nominated this year. The award is based on out- standing academic achievement through grade point average and SAT scores, plus exemplary ex- tracurricular activities and the results of a personal interview with the . U-M Alumni Associa- tion. The award provides $1,000 toward tuition or room and board following enrollment at the uni- versity in September 1986.
