Joanna Serman, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Serman,
and Julie Leib, daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Alden Leib, will twin
their b'not mitzvah ceremonies
with Inga Shavlov of Grozny in
the Soviet Union at Shabbat
services at 8:45 a.m. Saturday.
After many letters had been
sent, one response came back
marked "not deliverable.” Inga
lives with her mother, Rachel,
father, Anatoly, two brothers and
a sister. The Shavlov family has
encountered only hardship and
tragedy since applying for exit
visas in 1974.
In 1977, following their emig-
ration refusal, one of Inga's sis-
ters died. Her father has re-
peatedly appealed to the Soviet
authorities for permission to join
Inga's grandparents, aunt and
uncle in Israel.
The Leib and Serman families
will ask the congregation to send
letters of congratulation to the
Shavlov family at Kalinin 3-1
Per Michurina 39, Grozny 31,
RSFSR, USSR.
