Birmingham Temple.

Humanists Honor
Howard Simon
Howard L. Simon, executive
director of the American Civil
Liberties Union of Michigan, will
receive the "1986 Leadership
Award" from the Friends of the
Humanist Institute at a special
reception 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
Birmingham Temple.
Simon, 43, executive director of
the A.C.L.U. of Michigan since
1974, will be honored "for his
continuing efforts to protect con-
stitutional rights and civil liber-
ties."
Making the presentation to
Simon will be Howard B. Radest,
dean of the Humanist Institute,
and Khoren Arisian and Roger E.
Greeley, associate deans. Rabbi
Sherwin T. Wine, president of the
North American Committee for
Humanism, will also participate
in the ceremony.
The reception is open to the
public by reservation, but free of
charge. To make reservations,
call the temple office, 477-1410.
The Humanist Institute was
founded in New York in 1982 by
the North American Committee
for Humanism. It trains profes-
sional leaders and meets the
needs for humanist leadership in
the professions, the arts, sciences
and politics.
