Conrad, at a tes- timonial dinner to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Tam O'Shanter Country Club on Thursday. Cocktails will be served at 6:30 p.m. The occasion will mark the 65th birthday of the rabbi and his completion of 20 years of service to the congregation which was founded by eight families and Rabbi Conrad in 1966. The con- gregation has now grown to 270 family units. Initially, services were held at the Birmingham Unitarian Church, whose minister, Robert Marshall, was associated in many civic endeavors with the rabbi. Religious school sessions were held at various public schools in Oakland County and are now held at Hillel Day School. In 1969, the congregation pur- chased 51/2 acres of land on - Wal- nut Lake Road. In 1974 the cur- rent building was erected; it was dedicated on Passover 1975, and several additions have since been completed. The congregation's bar and bat mitzvah services are conducted entirely by the young people, with an active participa- tion of family members. Rabbi Conrad has participated in numerous Jewish and general . organizations, such as the Jewish Community Council, the advi- sory board of the Anti- Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, the Michigan League for Human Services, Michigan Reli- gious Coalition for Abortion Rights, and the Michigan Coali- tion for Human Rights. He will become ,"Founding Rabbi Emeritus" of the temple as of July 1. He will continue to serve until a successor is ap- pointed, and will remain active in the congregation and the Met- ropolitan Detroit Jewish and general communities. The rabbi, who was ordained at Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati in 1947, is a past chairman of the Rabbinical Commission of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Detroit and the West Bloomfield Clergy.
