assembling, anthologizing and
publication of ' the Pierrot
limericks. Hopefully they are
being retained for such a purpose.
Now the limerick assumes a bit
of sanctity in Biblical Limericks:
Old Testament Stories Re-Versed
by D. R. Benson (Ballantine/
Epiphany).
The book has an added
enchantment in the introduction
by Isaac Asimov.
The Random House Dictionary
has this definition for limerick:

self an essay on limericism.
Commenting on Benson's resort
to the Bible for his limericks,
Asimov commends Bensen for the
manner in which he applied him-
self to such an unusual theme.

"We Jews have always prided ourselves on
our family life. Even the Biblical salaam,
who came to curse, was inspired to say:

Oh Jacob, thy dwelling places Oh Israel.'
This family life, which once was a shining
jewel in the tiara of Jewish life, is tragically
fading. It is no secret that the rate of Jewish
divorce is rapidly approaching the national
level. It should be pointed out that, in
Judaism, divorce is not a sin. There are
some people who never should have mar-
ried each other. Better divorce than a de-
structive marriage. So, divorce is not a sin.
But it becomes a sin when divorced par-
ents use and abuse their innocent children
to retaliate against the former spouse. In
their desire for revenge, they deliberately
kindle the flame of hatred which ulti-
mately blackens the lives of the entire fam-
ily, and the candle of love is reduced to
ashes.
