Danto, an attorney with offices in Detroit, died April 16 at age 77. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Danto practiced law for 56 years, specializing in labor relatThns. He was a member of the Great Lakes Yacht Club, Temple Israel and its brotherhood, was a past master of Perfection Lodge of the Masons. He was graduated from the De- troit College of Law in 1928, Mr. Danto was a member Iof Michigan Bar Association, the 20th Century Club of the Detroit College of Law, a life member of Brandeis University and Men's ORT Federation. Otto Preminger New York — Otto Ludwig Preminger, film and stage direc- tor and producer, is dead at age 80. Born in Vienna, Mr. Preminger came to the United States in 1935, where he earned a reputa- tion of note in the theater as a producer. He established himself in film in 1944 with Laura. His other di- rectorial credits include The Moon in Blue, The Man with the Golden Arm, Exodus, Advise and Consent, Bunny Lake is Missing and Porgy and Bess. Elsie Kaplan Elsie Kaplan, a member. of Jewish women's organizations, died April 21 at age 72. Born in Detroit, Mrs. Kaplan was a member of Women's American ORT, Project Hope, Hadassah and Temple Beth El and its sisterhood. She leaves her husband, Seymour; a daughter, Dodo Kepes; a son, David; a brother, Herman Cass; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Rescuer Dies San Francisco — Herman Grabe, a non-Jewish engineer who saved or protected hundreds of Jews from the Nazis, died April 17 at age 85. Rabbi Killed In Pittsburgh Toronto (JTA) — Some 1,000 persons attended the hastily- called funeral Friday of 24-year old Rabbi Neil Rosenblum, killed by an unidentified assailant while visiting his wife's parents in Pittsburgh for Passover. Police apparently have few leads in the case, but reports indicate that Rosenblum, dressed in traditional Orthodox garb, was approached by a white man driv- ing a dark colored automobile who stopped to ask for directions. The assailant is said to have gotten out of the car and fired six bullets into the victim at dose range. Rosenblum reportedly gave police some information be- fore his death. Shcharansky Has An Agent New' York (JTA) — Anatoly Shcharansky, the Soviet Je,wish dissident who recently emigrated to Israel, has signed a contract wih the New York-based talent agency International Creative Management (ICM), which also represents former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. The Washington Post said Shcharansky is close to signing a major book contract. "probably with Random House." The paper said that "any book contract for an autobiography will probably dictate that a major portion of the money go to organizations to help other Soviet Jews."
