I read with great interest your
article on the recent "Critical Is-
sues Conference" of Rabbi Yitz
Greenberg (April 18). One
speaker was omitted who I think
did an outstanding job. It was the
luncheon speaker, Charles Sil-
berman, author of "A Certain
People."
He made many good points, in
particular percentages and/or
demographics relating to the
"CLAL" (Natidnal Jewish Center
for Learning And Leadership) is-
sues at hand.

Features Bikel

Matzah Factory

Students of the Shaarey Zedek
Beth Hayeled Nursery School vi-
sited the matzah bakery that was
co-sponsored by the 'Jewish
Community Center and the
Chabad. Our children actually
had a "hands on" experience by
mixing, rolling, putting in little
holes, baking, blessing and eat-
ing the matzah. They enjoyed
this entire activity and the adults
present shared this Pasover
symbol With the children.
A special mention of apprecia-
tion to Rabbi Elimelech Silber-
berg of Chabad and Jo Greene of
the JCC for their help, patience
and love for our children.
At a time when we Jews seem
to be more concerned with our
differences, it was wonderful to
see the success of this joint ven-

Theodore Bikel -

The entire community is in-
vited to the Young Peoples
Society's 100th anniversary cele-
bration at Temple Beth El at 7:15
p.m. May, 3. The evening will in-
clude cocktails, dinner and
entertainment by singer-actor
Theodore Bikel. A limited
number of reservations are
available and can be made by cal-
ling Betty Dobrusin, 851-1100.
There is a charge.
Bikel was born in Vienna and
was 13 when he and his parents
left Austria for Palestine. Being
fluent in Hebrew, Yiddish and
German, he intended to teach
comparative linguistics, but the
theater beckoned.
While working in several small
theater productions in London,
Bikel was seen by Sir Laurence
Olivier who offered him a role in
his production of A Streetcar
