Fitness Workshop

As a prelude to .its June 1
"Start to Fitness' runs, walks and
bicycle events, Sinai Hospital
will hold a special lecture on
"Start to Fitness: How to Get and
Stay in Shape," on May 7 at 7:30
p.m in the health club restaurant
of the main Jewish Community
Center.
Dr. Nathan Gross of the de-
partment of rehabilitation
medicine, will speak.
"Start-to-Fitness" is a series of
walking, running, bicycling and
wheelchair events being spon-
sored by Sinai Hospital on June
1.
In conjunction with the fitness
events, there will also be a health
fair on the lawn of Sinai Hospital
from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Free
health screenings, relaxation
workshops and demonstrations
will be offered.
To pre-register for the lecture,
call the Jewish Center, 661-1000,
ext. 269. For information about
Sinai's Start-To-Fitness Day, call

In celebration of Nation Volun-
teer Recognition Week, Sinai
Hospital held a luncheon to honor
the 300 men and women who
have given hours this past year to
their volunteer profession. Sinai
volunteers have given a total of
more than 3,500,000 hours of
service to the hospital since1952.
Three American Red Cross
volunteers were recognized for
their contribution at Sinai Hospi-
tal: Ruth Hermanoff, for 24,000
hours, Bertha Allen for 12,000
hours and Lil Rosenthal for
10,000 hours.
Goldye Sills, of Southfield, a
Sinai volunteer for more than 25
years received a pin for her 9,500
hours of service. Gertrude Re-
snik, of Southfield, also was hon-
ored at the luncheon for her 9,000
hours of service. In her position
as chairman of the volunteer
committee of the guild she inter-
views other potential volunteers,
and helps to place them in a work
environment to utilize their
skills and talents.
Sinai Hospital Guild is always
looking for new volunteers. For

Sinai Hospital of Detroit is of-
fering two special courses for ex-
pecting mothers.
The Casarean birth class will
run for three consecutive Wed-
nesdays, starting next Wednes-
day at 7:30 p.m. at Sinai Hospi-
tal.
Sinai also will offer a pre-natal
breastfeeding course for three
consecutive Tuesdays, beginning
May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at Sinai Hos-
pital.
There is a fee. To register, call
