CLOSE-UP
LaRouche
Continued from preceding page
a 1978 article in the NCLC publi-
cation New Solidarity, LaRouche
wrote, "Israel is ruled from Lon-
don as a psychosis through which
London manipulates most of the
international Jewry.' In describ-
ing Zionism as 'a hideous cult,'
LaRouche went on to allege that
the Nazis 'only' killed 'about a
million and a half Jews and as-
serted that Hitler had been put
into power largely with the back-
ing of certain Jewish financial
interests.
"In more recent years, LaRouche
and his organization have pub-
lished wild charges linking Is-
rael, prominent Jews and Jewish
organizations, particularly the
ADL, to underworld conspiracies
involving drug trafficking and
political assassinations."
LaRouche's ideology has made
a prominent place for the incor-
poration of strong anti-Semitic
themes into the grand' conspiracy
he claims steers world events. As
part of that, he has established
ties with organizations that pro-
mote racial hatred and anti-
Semitism, including the Ku Klux
Klan and the Liberty Lobby.
LaRouche has made claims
that Jewish organizations and

Jewish community deal in por-
nography and are linked to in-

nal violence. He has said there is
a "kernel of truth" to the Pro-
tocols of the Elders of Zion and
has alleged that "Jews were
largely responsible for bringing
Hitler to power and that the Nazi
Holocaust is one of the "hoaxes
produced by the ,Zionist de-
magogue."
His program contains many
elements of neo-Nazism includ-
ing a call for the immediate
elimination of "Jewish influence
in business, government and
labor," a deinand for a permanent
special prosecutors' office to try
Jews for treason, and a desire for
the Germanophobic remodeling
of American culture.
His publications are filled with
things such as a theory of
cultural/biological racism which
divides humanity into superior
and inferior ,people, with Jews
singled out as an especially weak
subhuman group and advocacy of
massive government repression
against Jews.
Through. it all, however,
LaRouche has maintained that
he's not anti-Semitic, only anti-
Zionist, and that he's just trying
to warn America of the imminent
disaster that will only be averted
if we accept his leadership.
That's the constant. What is
not constant and what makes
LaRouche so difficult to keep

The Democratic Party in
Michigan is planning an all-out
assault against supporters of
Lyndon LaRouche who seek elec-
tion as Democrats in Michigan's
August primary.
State party chairman Rick
Wiener told The Jewish News
this week he expects LaRouche
candidates to run in nine or ten
Michigan Congressional races. In
addition, LaRouche backer Hank
Wilson of Detroit is gathering
petition signatures to run in the
Democratic primary against
Governor James Blanchard.
"We are going to make Sure
that everybody they run aginst
wins," Wiener said vehemently.
"We'll challange any illegalities,
and where they get on the ballot
legally we will 'do everything we
can to make sure our mainstream
candidates win."
In 1984, Michigan Democrats
successfully challanged in court
the signature-gathering tactics of
the LaRouchites. According to
Brian Wittman of the State Elec-
tion Division in Lansing, the
courts threw out many LaRouche
candidates' petitions because
out-of-state circulators gathered
the signatures. At the end of each
day, the petitions were given to a
Michigan resident who signed
the petitions as circulator, a vio-
lation of state election statutes.
One Senate candidate and five
Congressional candidates were
invalidated.
In recent weeks, gubernatorial
candidate Wilson and Congres-
sional candidate Steven Carr
have been circulating petitions in
Waterford Township. There have
been several complaints by
'Waterford area residents, includ-
ing a Jewish News employee, who
were called drug users by
LaRouche circulators when they
refused to sign.
An aide to Congressman Bob
Carr (D-6th District) pointed out
that Steven Carr, of Royal Oak,
lives outside the district, but
state law does not prevent him
from running there. The 6th Dis-
trict extends through Oakland
and Ingham counties, from Pon-
tiac to East Lansing.
"I don't think the LaRouche
candidates can be ignored," said
Oakland County Democratic
chairman Mary Ryan Taras.
"That was the problem in Illinois.
We will have to go after them if
they get the petition signatures
to be placed on the ballot."
She said Michigan candidacies
of LaRouche supporters will not
have the success in Michigan
that they had in Illinois "because
the surprise is gone. They are so
kooky, all they need is a little
publicity to expose them. If
LaRouche gives one more press
conference it will be the end of
them.
"I'm not a fan of (White House
Chief of Staff) Don Regan," Mrs.
Taras said, "but I can't believe
he's the biggest _dope pusher in
the country" as LaRouche claims.
