Tel Aviv (JTA) — Foreign
Minister Joe Clark of Canada
ended a four day visit to Israel
last Monday during which he
met with Anatoly Shcharansky
and promised the aliya activist
who recently immigrated to
Israel that Canada would con-
tinue to exert public and private
pressure on behalf of Soviet
Jews.
He also stated at a press con-
ference in Jerusalem that there
will no change.in Canada's Mid-
dle East policy, specifically that
it sees a need for a Palestinian
homeland. The nature of the ter-
ritorial limits of this homeland
must be left to the parties con-
cerned in the region, he said.
Clark reiterated this stance
before his departure from Ben
Gurion Airport. He was winding
up a Middle East tour that took
him to Jordan, Saudi Arabia
and Egypt before coming to
' Israel. He also said that Canada
is expanding its assistance to
the Palestinians in the admin-
• stered territories through its
support of UNRWA, the United
Nations Relief and Welfare
Agency.
