Perelmuter was born in Kovel, Poland, in 1909. He spent several years in Grenoble, France, where he graduated in 1934 as an engineer. He arrived in Israel in 1949 and worked for the Ministry of Interior as chief of the engineer- ing department for town plan- ning. In 1970, he joined a group of artists, and his works have since been exhibited many times. His paintings have been purchased by individuals as , well as by gal- leries. Since his retirement, Perel- muter has dedicated all his time to painting, choosing as main subjects Judaica, Jerusalem and its environs. Guest speaker will be Shai Popovsky, doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan. Popovsky was born in Ramat Gan, Israel, in 1955. He served in the Israeli army between 1973 and 1976. He studied polit- ical science at the Tel Aviv University and was graduated in 1980. He received his M.A. degree from the Hebrew Univer- sity in Jerusalem in 1981. He will speak on the Israeli economy and the political obsta- cles that can be improved. The lecture series is co- sponsored by the Zionist Organ- ization of America — Detroit District, Labor Zionist Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and the Jewish Center.
