Black-Jewish Network
Works On Relationships

A network of leaders from
metropolitan Detroit's black and
Jewish communities has been
established to form stronger
links between the two groups
through church and synagogue
sermons.
Written by Donald W. Woods,
president of the Detroit Urban
League, the ideas and themes
include the history of black-
Jewish relations, philosophical
commitments to equal opportu-
nity, common enemies, excerpts
from speeches by prominent
Jews and blacks, and recent de-
velopments. The effort was coor-
dinated by Alvin L. Kushner,
executive director of the Jewish
Community Council.
Woods, Kushner, and Winston
E. Lang, executive director of
the Detroit NAACP, arranged
for distribution of the outline to
the 300 active members of the
Black Baptist Ministerial Al-

liance.
Other members of this profes-
sional network, who sit as indi-
viduals and not as official repre-
sentatives of their organization
or company, include Leon Atchi-
son, director of civic affairs for
Michigan Consolidated Gas Co;
Selma Goode, executive director
of the Jewish Labor Committee;
Larry Horowitz, executive vice
president of the Economic Al-
liance for Michigan; Richard
Lobenthal, Michigan Regional
director of the Anti-Defamation
League of B'nai B'rith:, the Rev.
James A. Lewis, pastor at Mt.
Beulah Baptist Church; Sher-
wood Sandweiss, area director of
the American Jewish Commit-
tee; the Rev. James E.
Wadsworth, Jr., president of the
Interdenominational Ministerial
Alliance; and Roy Levy
Williams, community relations
manager for Chrysler Corp.
