Sheri Wagner, chairman of the Youth Committee for Soviet Jewry, has announced that pro- ceeds from the group's Purim event will be presented to the Jewish Community Council's Detroit Soviet Jewry Committee at "Community Forum: Towards Summit II" scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the main Jewish Community Center. Sponsors of the event are the Jewish Com- munity Council and the Jewish Welfare Federation. The Youth Committee began its functions two years ago with several young people at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Because of the group's accomplishments, Ms. Wagner decided to expand be- yond her own synagogue to in- volve more youth. Representa- tives from six area congrega- tions now comprise the Youth Committee for Soviet Jewry. They include Jenny Blitz, Brian Feldman, Caren Fraiberg, Steve Lebowitz, and Danielle Lett of Adat Shalom Synagogue: Beth Bodzin and Lowell Fried- man from Cong. B'nai Moshe; Mike Flam of Cong. Beth Ab- raham Hillel Moses; Jennifer Ehrlich, Jennifer Goldman, Laurie Gornbein, Brian Jackson, Shayna Jerris, Alan Kantor, Amy Klein, Wendi Schmidt and Steve Zager representing Tem- ple Israel. Members from Temple Beth El are Jodi Carris, Andrea Fischer, Lori Freeman and Lauren Trahey and from Cong. Shaarey Zedek, Michelle Ber- kovic, Jackie Chazen, Andrea Goldman, Ellen Kraft and Marc Nakisher. Cong. Shaarey Zedek's Youth Director, Stuart Rogoff, provides adult supervision to the group. During "Community Forum: Towards Summit II," a special workshop for young adults, age 13 through 18, involved or in- terested in becoming involved in activities on behalf of Soviet Jewry, will be conducted by Glenn Richter, director of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry. Other workshops will focus on political action and cultural ex- change. Joel D. Tauber, Jewish Wel- fare Federation president, and Leon S. Cohan, Jewish commu- nity council president, will open the program, followed by Rep. Sander Levin. Keynote speaker is William Keyserling, Wash- ington representative for the National Conference on Soviet Jewry. Abraham J. Bayer, director of the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council's In- ternational Commission, will issue a call to community ac- tion. At the conclusion of the pro- gram, the speakers will add trees to the Soviet Jewry Free- dom Grove on the Jewish Com- munity Center grounds. ON CAMPUS Israel Info Day At U-M Hillel The B'nai B'rith Hillel Foun- dation at the University of Michigan will have an Israel in- formation day 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday at Hillel. Benny Schwarz, community shaliach and representative of the Jewish Agency's kibbutz- aliyah desk, will answer ques- tions and provide information about programs in Israel. The Shevrin-Cooker Duo, with guest cellist Arnold Friedman, will appear at 7 p.m. April 20 at the Kerrytown Concert Hall, Ann Arbor. There is a charge.
