When Temple Israel and
Hartford Memorial Baptist
Church jointly sponsor jazz
performer-composer Dave
Brubeck's The Gales of Justice
on April 26, it will climax a
year-long dialogue between the
church and temple.
The concert will take place at
p.m. at Orchestra Hall.
Cantor Harold Orbach, of
Temple Israel, will sing the
tenor lead, while Metropolitan
Opera star Arthur Thompson
has the baritone role.
Joining them will be the Dave
Brubeck Trio; the 150-voice
Cathedral Choir from Hartford;
and the Classical Brass
Ensemble.
The concert is a benefit spon-
sored by Temple Israel and
Hartford for the Inner City
Scholarship Fund, to be distrib-
uted by the civic advisory board
of the Dexter-Elmhurst Com-
munity Center.
The dialogue between the
inner city church and the sub-
urban temple began a year ago
when Hartford members were
invited into the homes of Tem-
ple families to observe and par-
ticipate in the Passover Seder.
There followed an exchange of
pulpits between the Rev.
Charles G. Adams, Hartford's
pastor and president of the De-
troit NAACP, and Rabbi M.
Robert Syme.
At the same time that their
clergy were exchanging pulpits,
members of the two congrega-
tions planted trees at each
other's building, symbolizing a
relationship that would grow
and flourish into the future.
The Cathedral Choir has paid
a Brotherhood Week visit to
Temple Israel's Sabbath Serv-
ices, and just a month ago,
Hartford's associate pastor, Rev.
D. Mark Wilson, and Rabbi
Harold S. Loss formulated a
joint youth program on "Black-
Jewish Relations."
Tickets are available by cal-
ling Temple Israel, 661-5700, or
at Orchestra Hall.

Correction

The In Memoriam notice
for Nathan W. Cohen
(Nunny) appearing in last,
week's Jewish News was in-
correct. It should have read:

Tying a shoe is a task most of
us take for granted. But for
some of us, its much more.
It's an achievement.

Three out of every 100
Americans are mentally

people who need our help
and encouragement. Not to
tie their shoes for them, but
to help them learn to do

things for themselves.

Through the ARC—the Associa-
