Bar-Ilan Gets
Detroiter's Gift

Howard Rosenberg

A dormitory room at Bar Ilan
University was recently
endowed by Howard Rosenberg
and his family, announced
Donald Fox and Paul Zlotoff,
general chairman for the uni-
versity in Detroit.
The endowment allows Bar-
Ilan to expand its dormitory sys-
tem. Only some 900 dormitory
beds exist, with a student popu-
lation of some 13,000.
In.Bar-Ilan's case the problem
is particularly acute due to the
fact the university actively re-
cruits students of Sephardic ori-
gin. Many such, students come
from economically depressed
families, thus making off-
campus apartment housing pro-
hibitive. Gifts such as Rosen-
berg's will allow a great number
of Sephardic students to be fully
integrated into campus life and
from there into Israel's
mainstream.
Rosenberg has been active on
behalf of Jewish charitable
causes in Detroit, and is a past
president of the Jewish Welfare
Federation's Hadracha program.
His family has long been active
in Jewish communal affairs.
For information about Bar-
Ilan's dormitory program, call
the university office, 398-7180.
