He was active in ; TLC (Teaching Learning Com- munity), a group which recruits senior citizens to tutor in the schools. He also opened the first drive-through dry' cleaners in Ann Arbor. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Merle Varon of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Mrs. Robert (Andrea) Ludwig; a son, Maj. Mark of Guam; a sister, Mrs. Betty Hubert of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother, Nathan of Bethel Park, Pa.; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment Ann Arbor. David Hershman David .Hershman, a real es- tate broker, died April 4 at age 67. . A native Detroiter, Mr. Her- shman was the son of former Cong. Shaarey Zedek Rabbi A.M. Hershman. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He leaves his wife, Lillian; six children, Mrs. Miriam Holden, Joelle Hershman, Joel Her- shman of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Burton (Susan) Ellis, Mrs. Jack (Debbie) Schoebaum of 'Valley Cottage, N.Y., and Mrs. David (Judy) Hinds of Florida; two sis- ters, Ruth and Eiga, both of New York; and nine grandchildren. A. L. Lindenbaum Alfred Lee Lindenbaum, a school teacher for 33 years, died April 7 at age 60. Born in Detroit, Mr. Linden- baum was a member of Temple Beth El, a former board member, a member of the tem- ple brotherhood and taught in the religious school, which he formerly supervised. Mr: Lin- denbaum was a member' of the Jewish War Veterans. He was retired. He leaves his wife, Marian; two daughters, Joyce of Ber- keley, Calif., and Mrs. Samuel (Peggy) Roach of Woodstock, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs.. Elliot (Madeleine) Lipson of Boca Ra- ton, Fla., and Mr. Charles (Helene) Victor, of Delray Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Pesach Burstyn, Yiddish Actor New York — Pesach Burstyn, a Yiddish stage actor whose career spanned :10 years, died April 6 at age 89. Mr. Burstyn, whose actor son, Michael, appeared many times this past year before Detroit audiences, made more than 300 recordings and appeared in numerous Yiddish theater prod- uctions, many of which he staged himself, and appeared opposite his wife, Lillian Lux. He was to go to Israel in June to receive the Itzik Manger Award. Last year he received a Goldy Award, created in mem- ory of Abraham Goldfaden, the father of Yiddish theater. Moshe Pearlman Call the Jewish Information Service Tel Aviv (JTA) — Moshe Pearlman, a well-known author, the first Israel Defense Force of- ficial spokesman, founder and first director of the Israel Gov- ernment Press Office, and an early director of Israel Radio, died April 5, at age 75. Mr. Pearlman became editor of the Zionist Review in the 1930's, working out of the Lon- don offices of the Jewish Agency. He spent a year in a kibbutz in 1936 and sub- sequently published his first book, Collective Adventure. He fought in the British army during World War II. During and after his army he was active in the Aliya Bet, the clandestine Jewish immigration movement. He -was a close adviser to the late Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. LeRoy (Sonia) Dunn; one sister and two brothers in Israel, three grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
