SUNDAY, APRIL 6, 1986

.

Jeff Emmer, the son of Bob
and Jan Emmer of Southfield,
will share his bar mitzvah dur-
ing a Havdallah service on
Saturday at Temple Israel with
Dan Levin, the son of Samuil
Levin of Riga in the U.S.S.R.
The twinning ceremony sym-
bolically links Jeff with Dan,
who will celebrate his bar
mitzvah in absentia since no
Russian child under age 16, may
participate in a religious obser-
vance.
Dan's father has been refused
permission to emigrate to Israel
from Riga since 1979. A con-
struction engineer, his exit visa
was rejected with no reasons gi-
ven.
Jeff has written twice to his
bar mitzvah twin, but has re-
ceived no response. Following
the bar mitzvah, Jeff plans to
write . Dan's grandmother in Is-
rael.

Teen to Share
His-Bar Mitzvah

E. David Curiel of Far-
mington Hills will celebrate his
bar mitzvah at Adat Shalom
Synagogue on Saturday. David,
son of Dolores Nachman Curiel,
has chosen to share his simcha
with Igor Stanislaysky of
Kishinev, Russia, who is unable
to observe his own bar mitzvah.
Igor's father, Efim Stanis-
laysky, is an engineer who was
forced to quit his professional
work after his first application
for an exit visa in December
1976. He has not been allowed
to return to his practice and has
since found work as a carpenter.
Stanislaysky has been refused
his exit visa repeatedly every
six months since his initial ap-
plication. The reason given has
been "secrecy" and "regime con-
siderations."
David has written several let-
ters to Igor which have not been
answered as yet. A telephone
call to Russia was being at-
tempted today.

David Dressler
Is Bar Mitzvah

David Bethune Dressler, son
of Joshua and Dorothy Dressler,
will be bar mitzvah at 7:30 p.m.
today at Temple Emanu-El.
David will twin his ceremony
with Marc Buzharsky of Russia,
son of refuseniks Isaac and Ada
Buzharsky. The senior
Buzharsky is a locksmith.
The family was refused visas
to emigrate to Israel in 1980.
Mrs. Buzharsky lost her job
after she applied for a visa, and
has been unable to find em-
ployment since.
