Cantor Saul Hammerman,
president of the Cantors Assem-
bly, appealed here Monday to
his fellow cantors to work on
behalf of the organization in an
effort to perpetuate the U.S.
cantorate.
Speaking at a dinner at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, Hammerman
urged_his peers to "enlist young
people into our profession. It's
our lifeblood."
Speculating on the future of
the American cantorate, Ham-
merman said that it "depends on
the future of the synagogue in
America. For the synaogue to be
successful it is necessary that it
has a gifted rabbi and chazzan."
He added that an objective of
the Cantors Assembly is to
entice young people to enter the Cantor Saul Hammerman

them to compose liturgy for the musical programming in th
