Louis G. and Ethel (Jackman)
Shear of Southfield recently
celebrated their 70th wedding
anniversary.
Louis G. Shear married Ethel
Jackman on March 19, 1916, in
Detroit, Michigan.
Louis came to this country
from Lithuania in 1905, through
Canada, at age 11. He was born
in 1894. Shear worked for 50
years, and retired from supervi-
sion from GM-Fisher body,
Fleetwood Division in 1958. He
attended the 75th anniversary
dinner of Fleetwood this past
year, being the oldest retiree
from that division.

been past president of the

Eisenhower Award for selling
the most U.S. Bonds during
World War II for that organiza-
tion. She also is a past president
of Pioneer women (now
Naamat). Ethel was also a
worker for Hadassah and B'nai
B'rith Women. She was born in
Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1895.
Both Louis and Ethel Shear
have been members of many
Jewish charitable organizations
over the years.
Mr. and Mrs. Shear celebrated
their anniversary with their
children, Dr. and Mrs. Phillip
(Rose) Shear of Southfield, Mr.
and Mrs. Irwin (Edith) Shear of
Clawson, and Harriet and Judge
Donald R. Freeman of Flint;
seven grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.

Robert Sedler
• Robert A. Sedler, professor of
law at Wayne State University,
has been honored by WSU as a
Gershenson Distinguished Fa-
culty Fellow "in recognition of
accomplishments that gained
national recognition."
Money to support the Ger-
shenson Fellowships was pro-
vided by a trust established by
the late Charles Gershenson.
Sedler will receive two annual
stipends of $6,000 to support re-
search work.
A leading authority in the
areas cif conflict of laws and
Constitutional .law, Sedler has
been involved as an attorney in
national landmark cases con-
cerned with civil liberties. He
has been a member of the WSU
law faculty since 1977 and prev-
iously served on the faculty of
the University of Kentucky Law
School.
He was the general counsel of
the American Civil Liberties
Union of Kentucky from 1971-
1976.
