Michigan Unit Cites
Orchards Volunteer
Barbara Mayer has been cho-
sen Volunteer of the Year by
the Michigan Federation of Pri-
vate Child and Family Agencies.
She will be honored at their
Special Recognition Luncheon
on Thurgday, at the Lansing.
Civic Center. Mrs. Paula Blan-
chard will present the award.
Mayer was chosen for her con-
triubtions to the Orchards Chil-
dren's Services, a community
agency of the National Council
of Jewish Women, greater De-
troit Section. The Orchards pro-
vides residential and support
services to emotionally dis-
turbed children and their
families as well as community
outreach programs.
Mayer was instrumental in
founding and became the first
chairwoman of the Orchards
Parent Therapist Program. This
program aids emotionally trou-
bled children who require foster
care within a constructive fam-
ily setting. Volunteers work
with professional staff to place
children, ages 6 through 17, who
are unable to • function
adequately in their own homes.
Mayer's participation in the re-
cruitment and training of volun-
teers for this program has been
called critical to its success. She
also helped develop a Leader-
FINALLY. A FAST,
SAFE AND EFFECTIVE
WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT
