In a final effort to enroll every
member of the community in
the Allied Jewish Campaign, a
telethon is scheduled for Sun-
day, just three days before the
Campaign closing celebration.
According to Jewish Welfare
Federation President Joel D.
Tauber, there are several
thousand Jewish Detroiters who
have not yet made a pledge. He
said, "Our aim is to reach them
this Sunday" and ask them to
help fellow Jews in need around
the world. The telethon will be
held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the
United Hebrew Schools in
Southfield.
Campaign Chairmen Stanley
D. Frankel and Paul D. Borman
have expressed satisfaction at
the totals to date, but they
cautioned that the local and
overseas needs this year are
pressing. Borman noted that,
here at home, a growing number
of programs and services to
benefit the elderly are increas-
ing, so is Detroit's 65-and-over

population. "In these difficult
times for Israel too, her people
must know that they can count
on their partners overseas."

"The Detroit Jewish commu-
nity is within reach of a record
total for its' '86 Campaign,"
Frankel said, "if volunteer
workers can maintain their
early commitment and dedica-
tion over the final five days."
Festivities at the April 9 clos-
ing party--set for 8 p.m. at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek — will be
highlighted by the words and
music of Gemini; twin brothers
Sandor and Laszlo Slomovits.
The highly-acclaimed duo will
perform Hebrew and Yiddish
selections that draw on their
European upbringing and reflect
the partnership that links Jews
of many lands. Using a stage
full of instruments and vibrant,
matched voices, they will also
sing songs of modern-day Israel
and play the melodies of her
folk dances.
