Lecture Series
At Main Center

The fourth lecture of the "Is-
rael: Idealism-Realism, Chal-
lenging the Mind" series will be
delivered April 6 at 2 p.m. at
the main Jewish Center.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Dov
Friedlander, professor of psy-
chology at the Hebrew Univer-
sity in Jerusalem. Dr. Friedlan-
der is currently the director of
the Office of Academic Affairs
for American Friends of the He-
brew University in New York.
He was the head of psychiat-
ric services of the Hebrew Unj-
versity for the past 15 years. He
was also a consultant to the
ministry of education and the
ministry of welfare.
Dr. Friedlander served in the
Israel Defense Forces and cur-
rently is a reserve member of
the department of trauma and

stress.

Dr. Friedlander was born in
Austria in 1934 and made
aliyah in 1946. He studied in
Manchester and London,
England, and received his Ph.D.
degree from New York Univer-
sity and was a professor at York
University from 1965 to 1970.

Twins Bar Mitzvah

Jeremy Yagoda will twin the
observance of his bar mitzvah
celebration at 9 a.m. Saturday
at Adat Shalom Synagogue with
Pavel Yusim, the son of Mikhail
and Stalina Yusim of Lenin-
grad, USSR.
The Yusims first applied for
visas in January 1979 and were
refused in September 1981. The
reason for refusal was "absence
of parent's consent." Mrs.
Yusim's parents and sister live
in Israel, and the Yusim family
is hoping to join them soon.

Sutzkever has been called the Marc Chagall of Yiddish poetry. His
life's odyssey has taken him from Siberia to the Vilna Ghetto to Israel.
The poet writs "I believe strongly in the power of Yiddish literature,
and especially its power in the Land of Israel, for in the place where
the Jewish People is being created anew, there Yiddish literature which
has suffered so tragically, must also rise again. It is a great privilege to
live and write in Israel, to plant the Yiddish word in the Hebrew land".
