YEARS OF WORKING and
playing in New York brought
Tequila Minksy, known in De-
troit as Marilyn Schrut, in con-
tact with many people .
Through the years, coincidence
brought familiar faces into her
life ... She'd recognize a Cass
Tech classmate or be buying
tomatoes at a little market and
run into one of the counselors
from Farband • Camp or riding
the subway and be remembered
from Detroit.
A number of years ago,
photo-journalist Tequila and
neighbor Marsha KeSkinen
realized that over the years they
knew many ex-Detroiters living
in New York ... some old
friends and those recently de-
veloped .... The two began
planning a party for all: De-
troiters they knew but the idea
went into hibernation.
Tequila's former Vassar Drive
next-door neighbor, Gail ,P,ar-
enteau (nee Maldaver), moved; to
New York last year ... Though,
it had been years since com-
municating together there was
much they had shared : .. hula
hoops, crab apple fights, Barbi
dolls and tackle football . .
When Tequila mentioned a De-
troit party, Gail's eyes lit up..
Date is April 9, 9 .p.m., at
Limelight, a dance club on' 6th
Avenue near' 20th St., which' of-
ferd its space.
The party will feature nostal-
gic decorations, vintage 'video
from Ford Motor Co., Motown
and Detroit Department of Pub-
lic Information ... Motown and
other Detroit •music will be
heard along with performanceS
by Detroit-bred musicians ...
Vernors and Sanders Fudge will
be given as door prizes ... plus
a drawing for round-trip ticket
to Detroit.
If you have family or'friends
living in New York, have them
call Gail, 212-496-5466, or
Tequila, 212-431-5609, for an
invite ... 6th Avenue will turn
into Six Mile Rd. ... admission
will be free ... cash bar ... and
by invitation only.
