The forum is entitled "Global Jewish Trouble Spots." Dr. Laikin-Elkin will speak on "Argentine Jews: Between Dictatorship and Democracy." A native Detroiter, Dr. Laikin-Elkin was educated at the University of Michigan and Columbia University. She was commissioned as a United States Foreign Service Officer and • served as U.S. vice consul in India, Pakistan, Burma, Ceylon, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom. Her adven- tures in South Asia are the sub- ject of her first book, Krishna Smiled, which was published by Wayne State University Press. Following years of teaching at WSU and Albion College, Dr. Laikin-Elkin began a five-year period of research which led to the publication of Jews of the Latin American Republics. Dr. Laikin-Elkin has taught Latin American history at the University of Michigan and this year is visiting associate profes- sor at Ohio State University. The cultural commission of B'nai David, chaired by Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Orent, arranged by Dr. Laikin-Elkin's appearance. The cultural forum is sponsored by Gustav Berenholz.
