The Fresh Air Society is ac-
cepting applications for campers
in its Silverman Village
campsite.
Silverman Village is a resi-
dent camp program for children
with learning and behavior
problems who require a more
highly structured and emotion-
ally supportive environment
than is usually provided • by a
regular camp. The program is
housed in a separate unit of
Camp Maas.
Silverman Village accepts 35
boys and girls, age 6 to 14, in
each of its two 25-day sessions.
The staff is drawn from students
in special education or related
fields.
Children participate in all the
usual camp activities: swim-
ming, canoeing, sailing, horse-
back riding, cook-outs, nature
appreciation, drama and dance.
A learning center provided film
strips, movies, cooking activities
and newspaper writing. The
Shabbat is celebrated with
candlelighting, stories and spe-
cial activities.
Patents or other professionals
who are involved with the fam-
ily or child may refer children to
Silverman Village. Applications
are available.
An Eastern Seaboard Travel
and Outdoor Challenge Program
will be offered for the first time
for adolescent boys aged 13-15.
This program introduces cam-
pers to activities as varied as
rock climbing and caving, raft-
ing and touring historical sites.
For families unable to pay the
full camp fee, scholarships are
provided. by the Fresh Air
Society and the United Founda-
tion. For information, call or
write the Fresh Air Society,
6600 W. Maple, West Bloom-
field, 48033, 661-0600.
