"A big look is the Madeira
(tablecloth) lace cut-outs in the
backs of dresses and blouses,"
she says.
While the big shirt look is still in,
Sherman says that "now you
really have to have a waist again,
because very popular right now
are the body conforming dresses,
and waist-length sweaters."
Printed skirts are very big this
year in mini, mid-calf, and
tea-lengths, says Sherman.
They're being topped off with
cotton knits, big, over-blouses, or
tone-on-tone jacquard print
blouses. "Solids seem to be most
in demand in our store," she
says.
"Bare" is the word for the latest
swimsuit styles being shown.
Roslyn Rock, of Roslyn's Intimate
Apparel, says that "swimwear is
the barest it's ever been." The
"hi-kini" is in, she says. This, as
the name implies, is a
waist-high-cut leg bekini. The
tank suit is also showing up a lot,
she says, with a low back and
cut-out sides, as well as the
waist-high leg. The number one
colors at her store, says Rock,
are black and white.
For cover-ups, the over-size
cotton shirts are being shown.
At Complaisant and The
Stadium, the look in bathing suits
is big, bold prints, with
"waist-high legs, and real low-cut
fronts and backs," says Siegal.
Krug, of Leger's Lingerie, raves
about the Gottex line of
swimwear, manufactured in
Israel. Because of the triple-ply
elastic used, this fashionable suit,
she says, is "great for tummy
problems."
One particular popular suit is
an "absolute beauty," she says, It
is in an abstract print of purple,
black, white, and red. It is
available with matching harem
pants in a triacetate fabric. The
