Rompers are a shortened version of the jumpsuit, and also are a good seller this year. A hot color and fabric is white terry, as well as the latest brights shown for jumpsuits, she said. "For this time of year," says Krug, "in cruisewear, bright is in." Leger's carries a complete line of cruisewear in its "Beach and Beyond" collection, which is part of Cole of California. Mix-and-match sets make planning and packing clothes a breeze. Popular colors are lavender, fuschia, and white. A great mix and match shirt has shoulders in lavender, a bottom half in fuschia, and lavender trimmed patch pockets. Another favorite at Leger's is "cropped pants with `tush-cover length big shirts," says Krug. The big shirts are mainly shown in solid colors. "Black and white are really the best sellers, because they go with everything," she says. Straw sun-visors with a terry flower that matches the crop pants and tops are strong. The short caftan is also a look available in the "Beach and Beyond" collection. It is shown in white, with ropes of cotton material strung with beads alternating in white, fuschia, and lavender sewn around the neckline. At Begadim, in West Bloomfield, pastels are very big, says co-owner, Lea Beurer. "The look is soft — soft fabric, and soft colors (which) is extremely feminine," she says. "There are Gottex emphasizes curves in a black and white geometric- patterned swimsuit with high-cut leg and bandeau bodice. some bright colors, but in a specialty boutique store, the prominent ones are soft." Linens are a popular fabric for jackets, skirts and walking shorts; as is lightweight rayon. To wear underneath, a lace or silk camisole — in light peach, mint, cream, pink, blue or black. At Begadim, the "Out of Africa" influence is seen in beige and khaki bottoms being shown with African and juncle print blouses. "Prints are used as accent pieces," says Beuer. "The fuller trousers with pleats are selling well," she says, "but the narrow look is still in. Roslyn Rock, owner of Roslyn's Intimate Apparel in Southfield, says that for cruisewear, "things are easy and comfortable to wear." Very big are strapless and low-back sundresses, and popular prints are the "fruit-salad" look, and the "cabbage rose," she said. At Marilyn Brooks and Co., the focus is on florals, graphics, fruit prints and jungle motifs. Rayon, one of the hottest fabrics for '86, is combined with linen in dresses, big shirts, and flowing skirts. Always popular for summer is 100 percent cotton. In a knit, or polished, this cool fabric breathes, for comfort. Complaisant and The Stadium in Farmington Hills are both owned by Ben and Ethel Siegal. Both stores sell beach and cruisewear, with The Stadium showing more sophisticated, high-fashion clothing. Complaisant carries clothing for "The young and the young-at-heart," says Mrs. Siegal. "Everything is in prints," says Siegal. "Everything out of Europe is printed." Besides fruit prints, florals, and abstracts, polka dots remain a spring favorite both in coin size and smaller.
