Danny Weintraub, owner of
Weintraub Jewelers in
Southfield, says "High-fashion
jewelry has become very popular
in this area." "Ours," he says, "is
a better quality jewelry store, but
since demand is with
high-fashion jewelry, we go with
the flow. We have 11/2 showcases
of high-fashion jewelry," he said.
Marilyn Brooks and Co. carries
a huge selection of designer
jewelry from N.Y., says co-owner
Dickinson. "The Reine Pokou line
is set with semi-precious stones:
sponge coral, ivory, jade, mother
of pearl and lapis and is designed
with metal pieces."
The shop also has its own line
of designer jewelry from Toronto.
"We call it 'Pasta Jewelry'," says
Dickinson, because the metal we
use looks like macaroni. It's
combined with synthetic pearls
and lalique. "The necklaces," she
says, "are really long — thigh
length — and can be worn across
the body and over one shoulder."
Begadim in West Bloomfield
carries a complete line of
designer jewelry from several
different artists and places. "This
jewelry has an artistic value to it to
accessorize with our clothing,"
according to Lea Beurer,
co-owner.
The look for earrings this
season is big, bold, colorful,
geometric and dangling.
Bruce Weiss Jewelry is also
selling a lot of large, dangling
earrings in black onyx, gold and
lapis as well as a "large selection
of fashionable earrings in bright
and bold colors at an affordable
price," said Weiss.
Weintraub says that he finds
earrings are bigger in size this
season, and even in 14kt gold,
the trend is for clip-on earrings. If
you prefer, however, they can be
changed to pierced, and vice
versa, he said.
Necklaces in silver and large
cubic zirconia are hot at Gornbein
Jewelers. According to owner
Carl Gornbein, customers are
picking up necklaces with large
