on sweatshirts and T-shirts along
with Flintstones and the Jetsons
cartoon characters.
Sunglasses will be the
accessory for boys this year.
Some will even come attached to
a Miami Vice style jacket, or be in
a special pocket designed just for
them. Shindler predicts every
youngster will have a pair this
summer.
Infants and toddlers can't be
forgotten, and their mothers are
looking for what is trendy,
according to one of the owners of
The Waiting Game in Southfield,
Bob Prussack. "The young,
suburban mother is buying
clothing for her little ones
comparable to what she is buying
herself. For many of these
mothers price is secondary to
style.”
Prussack points out there's a
difference between what
grandmother buys the little one,
and what the mother will choose.
"The grandmother goes for the
more traditional clothes, the
`Florence Eismans,' or the 'Sylvia
Whites.' The young mother will
buy what is trendy."
And trendy they certainly are.
Some are miniature copies of
their older brothers and sisters.
There are even outfits suitable for
either a boy or a girl, as they come
in plaid pants with suspenders, a
shirt and a tie.
Everybody knows Oshkosh,
the company that makes the
basic denim bib overall. You'll be
relieved to know they still do, but
now they're a little more
adventurous. They have
produced a line of Jams
look-alikes for the little ones, so
budget-minded customers with
an eye for the trendy can dress
them inexpensively, but oh, so
cute.
The fabric of choice for the
young ones seems to be cotton.
"Mothers are becoming
disenchanted with blended
fabrics. We are doing a lot more in
cotton. They like the feel of it.
Imports on the other hand are
mostly acrylics."
