Applebaum of Jerusalem, son of
Dr. Emanuel Applebaum, former
principal of the Adat Shalom
branch of the United Hebrew
Schools and headmaster of Hillel
Day School, received the 1986
Quality of Life Award in a special
ceremony at the Knesset.
Dr. David Applebaum, a senior
physician in the Shaare Zedek
Hospital emergency department
is also director of NATAN (Magen
David Adorn Intensive Care Am-
bulances). '
A 34-year-old immigrant from
the United States, Dr. Applebaum
received the prize for "medical ex-
cellence and his life-saving con-
tribution to the citizens of
Jerusalem and the area."
In addition to being a doctor, he
is also an Orthodox rabbi, or-
dained at Brisk Yeshivah. He
studied medicine at Ohio State
University and interned at Mt.
Sinai Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.
With his wife and four children
he made aliyah in 1981.
