Lifeline Service
Helps Elderly

Sinai Hospital of Detroit will
launch a new support service for
the community on Tuesday.
Called Sinai Lifeline, this serv-
ice is a personal telephone
emergency response system de-
signed to help the elderly, the
disabled and frail in health,
maintain independence in their
own homes.
Started in Boston in 1974, the
Lifeline system currently serves
more than 60,000 subscribers
across the U.S. and Canada.
Jointly sponsored by a Shiffman
Foundation grant, Sinai Hospi-
tal and the Sinai Hospital
Guild, Sinai Lifeline will be
available to the community at a
charge of $15 per month.
The Lifeline response system
is activated by a push of a re-
mote button which the sub-
scriber wears as a pendant or on
the wrist. The push of this but-
ton from anywhere in the home
activates a unit affixed to the
subscriber's telephone and sends
an electronic signal to the
Emergency Response Center lo-
cated in Sinai Hospital.
The response center is moni-
tored around the clock. Upon re-
ceipt of the signal, trained per-
sonnel will arrange for im-
mediate help to be sent to the
home.
Designated for individuals
who are fearful of being alone
and unable to obtain emergency
help in their • homes, Sinai
Lifeline offers peace of mind to
the users as 'well as respite and
reassurance for concerned
families.
For information about this
service, call Jerri Litt, Sinai
Lifeline coordinator, Monday
through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to
5 p.m., 493-5304.
