Israeli Students
Visit Michigan
Israeli goodwill ambassadors
Reena Gabbin and Roy Ozeri
will visit the Detroit area from
March 23 to 27 under Jewish
Community Council auspices.
' Their schedule will include
appearances at local high
schools, churches, youth group
meetings and media interviews.
Ozeri will be housed by Dr.
and Mrs. Darryl Goldberg and
Dr. and Mrs. Donald Sherman
will house Gabbin.
A resident of Moshav Bizzaron
near Ashdod, 16 year-old Ozeri
is a junior at the Regional High
School in Beer-Tuvia. He plans
to be an engineer.
The son of Israeli-born par-
ents; Ozeri's roots are in the his-
tory of his grandparents. His
paternal grandparents emi-
grated from Yemen and settled
in Jerusalem.
Max and Leah Stoppelman,
Ozeri's maternal grandparents,
were born in Germany and met
in Holland where they had gone
to prepare for aliyah. Mrs. Stop-
pelman left Holland for Israel
and was the last legal immig-
rant allowed into British Man-
datory Palestine before the be-
ginning of the Second World
War, while her husband arrived
on the "illegal" immigrant ship
Dora.
Gabbin, who is the 17 year-old
daughter of American olim, was
born in Brooklyn, N.Y. The fam-
ily made aliyah in 1971. They
reside in Haifa.

nal grandparents came to the
United States from Europe on
the last immigrant boat to sail
before America entered World
War II.
Volunteer drivers are needed
to escort the Israeli students to
and from their speaking
engagements. To volunteer, call

Coalition Topic
Howard Wallach, chairman of
the Jewish Community Coun-
cil's church-state subcommittee,
has spearheaded the formation
of an interfaith coalition to deal
with issues of church-state sep-
aration.
Representing the Jewish
community on the coalition are
Jody Jacobs of Council's Com-
munity Relations Committee
and Dr. Yale and Elise Falick of
Bloomfield Hills,
Also serving on the coalition
are Barbara Gray of the Greater
Detroit Round Table of the 'Na-
tional Conference of Christians
and Jews, Dr. Samuel F. Stout
of the Franklin Community
United Methodist Church and
the Rev. Chris Richards of the
Pine Hill Congregational.
Church.
The purpose, of the newly-
formed coalition is to develop an
ongoing relationship with school
superintendents and adminis-
trators, in order to sensitize
school officials to the concerns of
religious minorities.
