The Council of Orthodox Rab- bis announces the availability of a Beth din (communal tribunal) to arbitrate issues that range from matters of public policy to individual claims. The three-member court is comprised of Rabbis Leizer Le- vin, Leib Bakst and Chaskel Grubner. In many matters, judges are drawn from the 25 local Orthodox rabbis who are members of the Council of Or- thodox Rabbis. Many of the decisions of the Beth Din are upheld by the • courts. because. the -rabbis- re- quire that all parties sign a document binding them to the arbitration. Their decisions are also accepted by other religious courts, most notably, those in the State of Israel which is gov- erned by both civil and religious law. The Council of Orthodox Rab- bis that maintains the Beth Din as well as its other public serv- ices, is supported largely by the proceeds of an annual public banquet to be held at the Wes- Hotel on March 23.
