"An Evening with Isaac Stern"
will take place at 7:30 p.m. Mon-
day in the Community Arts Au-
ditorium at Wayne State Univer-
sity.
Violinist Stern will be the fea-
tured guest of the evening as part
of ceremonies honoring his
longtime friend, Emma Lazaroff
Schaver.
Mrs. Schaver recently made a
$300,000 contribution to the
WSU Music Department for voice
scholarships. The WSU Music
Building has been named in her
honor.
Making his concert debut at
the age of 11 with the San Fran-
cisco Symphony, Stern has•since
performed in orchestra halls
throughout the world for more
than half a century.
As part of his continuing ef-
forts to increase musical ex-
change with China, Stern will
present his Academy Award
winning film titled From Mao to
Mozart: Isaac Stern in China dur-
ing the evening program. Stern
will also conduct a master class
in violin open to the public. An
afterglow at 9:30 p.m. will con-
clude the day's events.
Tickets may only be purchased
in advance. For information, call
Lysa Campbell between 10 a.m.
and 3 p.m., 577-2617.
A special invitational cocktail
party and dinner will be hosted
by WSU President David
Adamany at his apartment pre-
ceding the 'evening presentations.
The benefit is planned for
patrons, sponsors and benefactors
contributing to the establishment
of an Isaac Stern Scholarship
Fund for WSU string students.
Proceeds from the film showing
will also go toward the schol-
arship fund.
