programs and institutions of His-
tadrut, the Israel Federation of

Zvi Brosh

Histadrut Associates will hold a
cocktail party reception at the
David Miller Hall of the United
Auto Workers at 8731 E. Jeffer-
son on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The
guest speaker will be Ambassador
Zvi Brosh, consul general of Israel
in Chicago.
Before coming to Chicago in
August 1985 to take up his new
post as consul general of Israel for
the 11 Midwestern states, Brosh
served for three years as ambas-
sador to Romania, heading Is-
rael's sole diplomatic mission in
the Soviet bloc.
He has also been Ambassador to
Burma and Sri Lanka (1966-
1970) and served twice as Israel's
Minister of Information for the
United States, working out of the
embassy in Washington (1970-
1973, 1978-1980). From 1976 to
1978, Brosh was consul general in
Los Angeles, representing Israel
in the seven Southwestern
statesof the United States.
Born in Berlin, Germany, in
1922, he settled with his family in
Jerusalem in 1933 and saw active
service with the British Royal
Navy during World War II. A
member of the Haganah in pre-
state days, he was an officer on the
staff of the then Col. Moshe Dayan
when the latter commanded the
defense of Jerusalem in 1948.
Brosh subsequently spent ten
years in the regular army as a
lieutenant-colonel in the educa-
tion branch of the Israel General
Staff. He joined the Foreign Serv-
ice in 1960. •
While on home postings, he
served twice (1965-1966, 1973-
1976) as chief of the Foreign
Ministry's International Cooper-
ation Division, directing Israel's
extensive program of technical
assistance to developing countries
of the third world. More recently
(1980-1982), Mayor Teddy Kollek
"borrowed" him from the Foreign
Ministry to be his special adviser
dealing 'with the complex foreign
policy issues of Jerusalem and its
far-flung international connec-
tions.
A journalist by profession, Am-
bassador Brosh held key positions
in Israel's broadcasting services
and visited the. United States as
far back as 1952 as a -member of
the Israel government's first sur-
vey mission on television.

Support Group

The Jewish Family Service is
offering a program of
informational-support groups for
individuals and families who are
having personal problems related
to caring for elderly relatives.
The next group will meet for six
consecutive Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
at the Jewish Family Service, be-
ginning March 5.
