Shaarey Zedek will present a series of four lec- tures by Prof. Zvi Gitelman of the University of Michigan on "Jewish Identity in the Modern World: Challenges and Re- Appraisals" in March. The first lecture, to be pre- sented on March 5, will be entitled "The Emancipation: Vision and Illusion;" and will deal with the process by which European Jews in 19th Century Europe became citizens of the states in which they lived. The second lecture, "American Jewry; Many, One or None?" will be given March 12 and will exam- ine the dilemmas confronting con- temporary Jewry in the United States. The third lecture "Soviet Jewry: Identity Under Oppres- sion," will focus on RuSsian Jewry since the Czars and will be given on March 19. On March 26, Dr. Gitelman will address the issue "The Jews of Is- rael: E Pluribus Unum?" a con- sideration of the condition of mod- ern Isiaeli society. Dr. Gitelman-holds a 'chair in political science at U-M.
