Samuel David Haber, an at-
torney for more than 50 years in
the tri-county area who gained
recognition for his donations to
the American Red Cross, died
Feb. 6 at age 74.
Born in New York, Mr. Haber
was graduated in 1929 from the
Detroit College of Law. He was
a member of the American,
Michigan and Oakland County
Bar Associations and Cong.
B'nai Moshe. During his career,
he did mediation work for
judges in the tri-county area.
Mr. Haber had donated 13
gallons of blood to the American
Red Cross. When questioned by
Jewish peers why he wore a
lapel pin with a cross on it, he
decided to query the local Red
Cross affiliate about changing
its emblem. A quick-thinking
public relations executive came
up with a solution: she sent Mr.
Haber a Magen David Adom (Is-
rael's emergency medical and
blood service) pin with a picture
of a blood drop on it.
He leaves his wife, Gertrude;
two sons, Michael and Kenneth
of Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister,
Mrs. Mollie Epstein of Flint;
and five grandchildren.

STREET SMART

"Psst. Hey, buddy, it's me, the talking
vending machine. I want to tell you
that the next time someone tries to
borrow your Jewish News, don't let
'em. Tell 'em to get their own. But tell
'em nicely.
"And tell 'em where. Because the
magazine that covers our community,
from the Mideast to the Midwest is
now available at stores and dozens of
vending machines all over town. And
maybe after your pals buy one or two,
they'll decide to subscribe themselves.
Then you won't have to hide your
Jewish News the next time they come
over.
"With over 88 places that the Jewish
News is sold, they no longer have an
excuse!"
