Ambassador Edward Marks, a
senior Foreign Service officer of
the U.S. Department of State
and former deputy director of
the State Department's office for
combating terrorism, will dis-
cuss "International Terrorism —
Challenges to U.S. Foreign Pol-
icy" on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at the
main Jewish Community Cen-
ter.
Ambassador Marks' pre-
sentaton is part of the lecture
seris sponsored jointly by the
Metro Detroit District, Zionist
Organization of America; the
Labor Zionist Institute and the
Jewish Center.
Marks was the U.S. envoy to
the West AFrican countries of
Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde.
Apart from serving three years
in Brussels, Belgium, and hold-
ing top policy assignments in
Washington, D.C., he spent most
of his diplomatic career in the
Third World, and most of that in
Africa. He is currently senior
foreign affairs fellow at
Georgetown University's Center
for Strategic and International
Studies.
A native of Chicago, Marks
grew up in Detroit and is a
graduate of the University of
Michigan. He holds a master's
degree in economics from the
University of Oklahoma.
