Brain-Injured Patients
Jewish Vocational Service and
Community Workshop (JVS-
CW), in partnership with Sinai
Hospital, announces the opening
of the Center for Comprehensive
Rehabilitation (CCR), a day
treatment program for people
who have suffered closed head
injuries.
Trauma is the leading cause
of death in the United States for
people under the age of 34. Na-
tionally, 50,000 people per year
suffer brain injuries, usually as
a result of a drug or alcohol-
related automobile or motorcycle
accident.
Survivors, mostly 15-25 year
old males, are often left with
serious intellectual or emotional
impairments. They require in-
tensive rehabilitation services to
relearn basic skills, such as at-
tention, memory, problem-
solving, even how to walk and
eat with a knife and fork again.
The center's goal is to help
the injured individual regain
these skills and re-enter the
community, to return to school

cluded in all aspects of the CCR
program.
The center coordinates and
integrates services and
therapies following hospital dis-
charge. The treating physician
can monitor the patient's pro-
gress. The center's interdiscipli-
nary team includes a neurop-
sychologist, rehabilitation
counselor/case manager, occupa-
tional therapist, speech
pathologist, cognitive rehabilita-
tion therapist, physical
therapist, rehabilitation nurse,
vocational evaluator and social
worker.
Individualized therapies are
provided at the Center in Oak
Park, or, in the home.
The Center for Comprehensive
Rehabilitation is located at
25900 Greenfield, Suite 254,
Oak Park. For information, call

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday -
Friday.
