come true ... or just something
never expected to happen.
Candy Ingham was just a
teenager growing up in the area
when The Loving Cup with
Marlene Hill was appearing at
Duffy's On The Lake ... owned
then by Lois and Ted Griffith
. She'd go in just to listen ...
and be enthralled at Marlene
singing with one of the Detroit
area's premier groups.
This was 1970, The Loving
Cup's first visit to Duffy's that
lasted a year.
Whoda ever thunk it! ... To-
day, Candy and her husband
Jim Gotta own The New Duffy's
On the Lake with her mother,
Beverly Ingham ... and while
we were there, Marlene Hill,
hubby-Danny Jordan and The
Loving Cup were in the midst of
a four-week engagement.
Bob Posch, long-time favorite
at Duffy's, opens tonight ... and
appears Fridays and Saturdays
during month of February.
Duffys On The Lake is a true
family operation now ... some-
thing both the customers and
employees like ... Family own-
ership and involvement means
great interest ... Too many
places have gone down the drain
because a restaurant was
brought either for supposed in-
vestment purposes only or be-
cause the grass looks so green
with steady cash flow ...' But

the cost of putting a key in the
door of a restaurant these days
. especially those with liquor
because- of laws commanding
exhorbitant insurance pre-
miums, is such that demands
strict attention by people who
care.
This is a main reason why
many family-oriented dining op-
erations are springing up ...
with success ... There's a lot of
pride involved, too ... with keen
awareness by members of a
family-owned place.
Candy's mother, Beverly,
takes turns with her daughter
. days and evenings-.., as
hostess and womaning the coat
check room ... Candy's sisters,
Sue Hummel and Ann Ingham,
are waitresses in the true family
organization ... Candy herself
is a former waitress ... working
nine years ago-for Norm LaPage
at his Squire's Table (now,Nifty
Norman's) ... then it was the
Red Nose Tavern where she met
Jim Gotts, a drummer in group
there ... former running back
with Mel Farr at U.C.L.A
July 7 will be their seventh an-
niversary.
Candy does everything except
cook at The New Duffy's On the
Lake ... washing dishes to
tending bar , .. and that pretty
smile of hers is a great example
for their employees to follow.
The new Duffy's seats about
200 at tables ..., has a dance
floor (which won't be used when
