New York (JTA) — Nathan
Perlmutter, director of the Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith, last week indicated his
support for the controversial
Brigham Young University
study center of the Mormon
Church under construction on
Mount Scopus in Jerusalem.
The ADL official noted that in
medieval times, custom would
not permit Jews to build syna-
gogues taller than churches.
"What really counts," Perlmut-
ter said, "is that made-by Chris-
tians medievalisms not be
adopted by Jews, not in this
already excessively punished
century, and surely not in the ci-
ty that should be a light unto all
cities, Yerusalayem. '
Perlmutter's comments are
contained in his monthly column
in the ADL Bulletin, the agen-
cy's national publication. '

New York (JTA) — The
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America has launched a project
to collect the records — written,
photographic and oral — of the
Conservative movement in the
U.S., beginning with those of
synagogues, continuing with the
papers of rabbis and lay leaders,
and eventually encompassing
the documents of its various na-
tional bodies.
•The project, announced by his-
torian Dr. Jack Wertheimer, di-
rector of The Archives of Con-
servative Judaism, is being ini-
tially funded by a $25,000 grant
from The Lilly Endowment,
which runs through December.
The impetus for the project;
said Wertheimer, was the up-
coming Centennial of the Semi-
nary, the movement's primary
educational - institution, which
will be celebrated beginning in
September.

Protests Close
Of Shipyards
Tel Aviv (JTA) — Histadrut
announced last Sunday that it
will call a general strike of
several hours' duration in Haifa
next week, to be followed by a
countrywide general strike, if
the financially ailing Haifa
Shipyards is shut down by the
government appointed receiver.
The government-owned ship-
building and repair facility on
Haifa Bay has ordered its 650
employes on a payless furlough
of indefinite duration. The
workers responded by barricad-
ing themselves inside the gates.
They are maintaining a 24-hour
sit-in in shifts to prevent a lock-
out by management.
The receiver, Amiram Blum,
announced that he has gotten
permission to re-employ about
60 workers for repair work on
ships. The yards have been los-
ing U.S. $600,000 a month.
