Herman Avrin
Herman S. Avrin, an attor-
ney, died Jan. 17 at age 78.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada, Mr. Avrin was a long-
time resident of the Detroit
area. He was a member of
Mosaic Lodge of the Masons,
past president of Adat Shalom
Synagogue men's club and a
former board member of the
synagogue and a member of the
Michigan State Bar Association.
He leaves his- wife, Martha; a
son, Gerald; a daughter, Mrs.
Gerald (Carol) Freedman; a sis-
ter, Mrs. Ida Mersky of Texas;
and four grandchildren.

Herman Dickstein, owner of
the Bobette Shop in Pontiac,
died Jan. 16 at age 83.
Boin in Russia, Mr. Dickstein
lived in Detroit 51 years. 11e
was past president of Temple
Beth Jacob, a life member of the
Elks and Optimist Club and
B'nia B'rith.
He was previously active with
the Pontiac Chamber of Com-
merce.
He leaves his wife, Bea; two
sons, Kenneth and Sidney; a
daughter, Mrs. Henry (Judy)
Winkelman of Arizona; a
brother, Bernard of Tucson,
Ariz., and a sister, Mrs. Saul
(Bess) Syde of Tucson; ten
grandchildren and one great-
grandson.

intelligence official Raphael
Eitan has been nominated to
serve as chairman of the board
for the government-owned Israel
Chemical company.
Eitan, who served as adviser
to the prime minister on ter-
rorism between 1978 and 1984,
has been identified by the Is-
raeli press as the man who ran
the Jewish State's purported es-
pionage operation in Washing-
ton. Eitan allegedly oversaw the
activities of Jonathan Jay Pol-
lard, a Navy intelligence
analyst accused of spying for Is-
rael.
