His exit visa was first rejected in Oc- tober, 1978. Liza now lives with her mother Maria, a physician, and her stepfather, Leonid Kelbert. Kelbert was an internationally-acclaimed film director in Leningrad when he applied for an exit visa. He now directs a Jewish theater group performing on themes in Jewish history.
