THE AGENCY. Founded
in 1902, the Fresh Air
Society/Tamarack Camps is a
member agency of the Jewish
Welfare Federation and re-
ceives funding from its Allied
Jewish CampaiR.
Campers from age 6 to 15
are offered a Jewish camping
experience at the various
sites, which include Camp
Tamarack in Brighton, Camp
Maas in Ortonville, Camp
Kennedy in Michigan's upper
peninsula and Camp Agree in
Ontario. Last summer, more
than 1,500 -youngsters took
part in camping programs,
with over half of them receiv-•
ing some financial assistance.
In fact, FAS has a record_ of
not denying any child a
Jewish camping experience
because of inability to pay.
FAS also operates the Butzel
Conference Center in Orton-
ville, which is the site of
summer camping programs
for senior adults.

CAA'S.
Young people are perhaps
this community's most preci-
ous resource, for the future of
Jewish life depends on them.
That's why the Allied Jewish
Campaign of the Jewish Wel-
fare Federation supports
many agencies that help pro-
vide Jewish experiences for
youngsters.
With the 1986 Campaign's
solicitation taking place
throughout the community,
the following profile shows
how support of our commu-
nity's services translates into
positive results.
THE PERSON. Hope
King is an energetic fourth
grader who's carrying on a
special family tradition ...
and loving every minute of it.
A "veteran" of two sum-
mers at the Fresh Air
Society's Camp Tamarack in
Brighton, the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Dennis King is her
family's third-generation
Tamarack camper. In fact,
Hope's grandmother, Ger-
trude Ellman, attended Fresh
Air Camp in the 1920s.
But Hope is definitely her
own person. Her eyes sparkle
when she talks about the ter-
rific experiences she has had
at camp. Her first canoeing
trip, making white-water
'swim level, taking part in a
surprise party for her coun-
selor, making new friends ...
all have helped her feel good
about herself.
Something else she feels
good about is her sense of
Jewishness. She describes the
all-camp shabbat services and
Hebrew songs and dances.
What does she like most?
Hope- says it's the opportunity
to put to work the Hebrew
she has learned in religious
school.
Hope is already planning
for next summer and even for
the summer after, when she
will move on with the older
kids to Camp Maas in Orton-
ville. Her mother is pleased
that Hope and her Sister
Stacey have become such
