THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Jewish institutions, to directly
address the potential threat of
extremist group violence in the
farm belt.
ADL regional directors
especially in the Midwest --
have identified leaders and
organizations and established
new relationships, working
cooperatively and existing com-
munity and farm organizations,
civic leaders and churches.
Human relations materials and
fact•finding and research reports
are being used to expose and re-
pudiate the message of hate
groups. ADL model legislation
to restict paramilitary activities
has already been adopted by 11
state legislatures and is being
considered by others.

Cross Outlawed

New York (JTA) — A federal
appeals court has ruled that a
New. Mexico county whose offi-
cial seal prominently features a
Christian cross is in violation of
the separation of church and
state mandated by the Constitu-
tion and can no longer be used.
Bernalillo County adopted the
seal. approximately 60 years ago
and used it on some documents,
but it was only after 1973 that
its use was expanded to official
documents and vehicle logos.
