Isadore Sabbota
Isadore Sabbota, who is be-
lieved to be the only American
Jewish soldier who marched in
the Bataan death march in the
Philippines, died Jan. 10 at age
67.
A native Detroiter, Mr. Sab-
bota owned the Stabile Shoe
Clinic in Warren. He was a
member of the Mosaic Lodge of
the Masons, Disabled American
Veterans, Cong. B'nai Moshe,
and the Jewish War Veterans,
of which he was a charter
member of the Detroit affiliate.
Mr. Sabbota is survived by his
wife, Minnie; a son, Jerome; two
daughters, Mrs. William
(Elaine) Jacoby and Mrs. David
(Diana) Kessler; two brothers,
Hyman and David; and three
grandchildren.
Joseph Kraft
Washington — Syndic-ated
columnist Joseph Kraft died
Jan. 10 at age 61.
Author of books and articles
on national and foreign affairs,
Mr. Kraft had in recent years
written for the Los Angeles
Times, which syndicated the ar-
ticles to the Washington Post
and nearly 200 other publica-
tions.
He had been an editorial
writer for the Post, staff writer
for the New York Times, a con-
tributor to The New Yorker and
other magazines, a correspon-
dent for Harper's Magazine and
a columnist for 15 years for
Field Newspapers.
Ahrne Thorne
New York (JTA) — Ahrne
Thorne, a Yiddish writer and
editor long associated with the
Jewish anarchist movement,
died Dec. 13 at age 80.

B'-nai Zion's America-Israel
Friendship Award at its 78th
annual dinner in New York on
Feb. 16.
Ernest Zelig, the organiza-
