Committee of the Archives of
American Art/Smithsonian In-
stitution will present Lundi
Gras XXVI-La Belle Epoque, a
birthday celebration of the Arc-
hives of American Art, founded
in Detroit. The date is Monday,
February 10, 1986,
"This elegant • black tie eve-
ning will take place at Restau-
rant Duglass beginning with
cocktails and hors d'oeuvres - and
continuing with dinner and
dancing. Chef Duglass, 'master
in the enchanting game of culi-
nary invention, will transform
the setting .into a scene char-
acteristic of La Belle Epoque
with les couleurs de Cezanne,
l'esprit de Renoir, and la geaiete
Parisienne. The menu will re-
flect the unity of art and cuisine
of Toulouse-Latrec in a birthday
celebration to be remembered.
"Chairmen of the event are
Mr. • and Mrs. Mark Rosenfeld.
Decorations- are by 'Mr. Robert
Mounsey. Cuisine by' Chef Dug-
lass.
"The Archives of American
Art is the largest manuscript
collection in the world docu-
menting the history of the vis-
ual arts in America. Its purpose
is to collect and preserve the
original records, diaries, letters,
photographs and'other materials
from colonial times to the pre-
sent and to make those mate-
rials readily available on mic-
rofilm to scholars atound the
world. The Archives of Ameri-
can Art represents a body of
knowledge that provides an in-
sight into the. sensitivity and
reactions that only an artist can
bring to'his time.
"Mr. A. Alfred Taubman is
chairman of the national board
of trustees. Dr. Irving Burton,
Mrs. Walter B. Ford, Mrs.
Henry Johnson, Mrs. Charles
Kessler, Mr. Richard Manoogian,
and Mrs. William Mitchell are
trustees. Mrs. Abbott Schlain is
president of the Detroit board.
"What could be more apropos
than members of the Archives of
American Art combining their
26th birthdai celebration with
the culinary tutelage of Chef
Duglass. Lundi Gras XXVI
evokes thoughts of that much-
embellished Belle Eqopue and
