Detroit's Cantor Chaim Naj-
man of Cong. Shaarey Zedek
and Cantor Emeritus Shabtai
Ackerman of Cong. Beth Ab-
raham Hillel. Moses and cur-
rently cantor of Temple Beth Is-
rael in Deerfield Beach, Fla.,
were participants in a recent
Cantors Assembly concert in
Deerfield.
The sold-out concert was
sponsored by Detroiters Joseph
and Elsie Deutsch. The $20,000
in proceeds netted from the con-
cert will benefit the Cantors As-
sembly.
Ackerman and Najman were
- joined in the concert by Cantor
Irving Grossman of Temple Beth
Am, Margate, Fla.; Cantor Is-
rael Barzak, Central Conserva-
tive Synagogue, West Balm Be-
ach, Fla.; the Math Yesliurun
choir, Miami- Gardens, Fla.;
Cantor David Bagley, Beth
Shalom Synagogue, Toronto,
Canada; Cantor Ian Alpern,
Cong. Adath Yeshurun; and
Jack Bares, accompanist.
The program was produced
and directed by ,Cantor Acker-
man, chairman of the Florida
Region of the Cantors Assembly.
Beginning with the anthems,
the program included liturgical,
opera, folk and Yiddish theater
music.

Cong. B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield will begin a monthly
education program, Midrasha
B'nai Israel, at 9 a.m. Shabbat
services Feb. 1.
The program will involve a
learning session for the congre-
gation, wherein it will hear a
lecture and participate in a
dialogue following the talk.
On Feb. 1, Betsy and Mike
Winkelman will speak on "Let
My People Go." Mrs. Winkel-
mau is an officer at Adat
Shalom Synagogue and both
Winkelmans have been involved
in projects on behalf of Soviet
Jews.
Aron Gach, a , member of the
bar/bat mitzvah class, will chant
the Haftorah. Rabbi Sherman P.
Kirshner is the spiritual leader.

Tu b'Shevat Seder 7 p.m. Jan.
25;at the synagogue.

/holiday readings appropriate
songs and the presentation of

members who 'participated in
last summer's beautification
project. A special Haggadah de-
veloped by the Jewish National
Fund will be used.
A complete dinner will be
served following the service. A
donation is required.
