Another GE Takeover?

The Israeli coalition goVern-
ment is in disairay after reports
surfaced last week that the Gen-
eral Electric Company had made
an unfriendly bid to purchase the
State of Israel.
' Rumors of G.E.'s move to take
over Israel were confirmed by the
Likud-Labor government the day
after G.E. had purchased the RCA
Corporation for $6.28 billion. The
GE-RCA merger occurred the
same day Israel submitted a re-
quest to the United States for $3.5
billion in foreign aid.
Said GE executives of their bid
on Israel, "We have the know-how
and the experience to make Israel
a going concern. Initial discus-
sions with members of the Israeli
cabinet indicate that Israel needs
better strategies to compete in
world markets."
The possible merger is subject
to approval of GE stockholders
and of Israel Bonds purchasers.
Should . they consent, there is a
strong chance that the capital of
Israel would be moved from
Jerusalem to GE's headquarters
in Schenechtedy, New York. This
may clear sthe way for a Mideast
peace settleMent.
The GE bid is the second bid to
take over Israel in the last 18
months. In July 1984, publishing
tycoon Rupert Murdoch offered
$25 above the market value for all

While You Were Out

Israel Bonds. Bondholders stood
firm and spurned Murdoch's offer,
primarily because they were re-
pelled by Murdoch's talk of turn-
ing The Jerusalem Post into a tab-
loid which would feature nude
photos of Prime Minister Shimon
Peres on the front page.

Defective Defection

Vashington — The Russian
Ambassador to the United
States reluctantly agreed to
leave the U.S. Embassy here
after holing up in a guest room
for 12 days. "This is not defec-
tion, I leave her freely and
willingly," said the Ambassador
as he was led out of the building
by a dozen armed Soviet
soldiers.
"I didn't really want to seek
asylum in America. I just
wanted to test guest room act
commodations in case Gor-
bachev comes- for visit."

Hostagey

Hollywood — Arab terrorists
this week stormed onto the set of
"People's Court," the popular
television show, and took as hos-
tage Judge Wapner and two
make-up men, demanding the re-
lease of all TV sitcoms that fea-
titre "Zioriist actors."
The crisis was resolved when
the sage judge offered to allow the
terrorists to make .their grie-
vances known and have the seg-
ment appear on TV Bloopers.

Detroit — By' executive order
of Governor Jimmie Blanche the
format of all pink ,"while you
were out" memo pads used in
Michigan's government offices is
scheduled to be revised. The
new pads, The Jewish Shmooze
recently learned, will bear not Who Do You Trust?
just the usual "Please Call"• and
"Will Call Again" boxes, but
Two American spies posing as
will also be' imprintdd with Israeli spies vitho were believed
checkoff boxes that -read "Ur- to be Soviet double-agents plan-
gent," "Time To Panic," ning a fake "defection" so as to
"CRISIS," and "Remember Old spy on the French secret agents
charged by New Zealand in the
Court."
According to Blanche, "The `bombing of a Greenpeace ship
old message pads were too objec- were arrested• today; But it is
tive; it was hard to tell the junk unclear' who arrested them or
from the real important stuff."
why. Details to follow.
